The Blackfoot River, like the Bitterroot and Clark Fork Rivers, is one of the local Missoula Montana favorites. The Blackfoot, made famous by Norman Maclean’s “A River Runs Through It”, has a lot to offer with its scenic rocky canyons, abundant wildlife, playful but gentile whitewater, and long historic past. This river has been a “trail to the buffalo” for many Native American tribes and was a favorite spot to several of the members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition...

We have many options when it comes to what section of the river to raft. The upper reaches of the river can offer more of a secluded wilderness trip while the lower stretches of the river can be a fun social outing – the people of Missoula love to float the lower Blackfoot once the summer temperatures hit. And when they do, there will be folks out in droves to enjoy the cool, clean waters!

No matter what section of the river you choose, the views are wonderful and there is a good chance of seeing some wildlife. The bighorn sheep in the lower canyon frequent the steep rocky cliffs and offer a special viewing opportunity! The sheep are famous in these parts and they often gather right on the side of the highway! Another special viewing opportunity are those Peregrine Falcons that live in the cliffs near Weigh Station- if you can spot them…

The Blackfoot is a great float for the early and middle summer. Sit back and enjoy the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. This is a great trip for the family, for a first time rafter, or for someone wanting a nice float that is not too far from town. Ah the Blackfoot...

Of course we can provide a delicious lunch while on the trip- this is up to you. There are many great paces to stop, get out, and poke around while your guides prepare the lunch table for you. But if you have limited time or want to bring you own snacks that is just fine.

You will not need to bring much- your guides will set just about everything up for you. None the less, it is not a bad idea to have the following:

	Sunglasses
	Sunscreen lotion
	Waterproof camera
	A hat with a brim
	A water bottle
	Anything else that will enhance your comfort
	We will provide waterproof bags for your things
